Senior Research Associate

SemaThera Inc is a growing small biotech company which specializes in development of therapies for ocular indications such as macular edema, proliferative diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. The candidate will benefit from a dynamic research environment at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Research Centre in Montreal.  We are currently seeking an exceptional and highly motivated senior research associate to join our team of in vivo pharmacology. The successful candidate will have significant and relevant industrial experience in biologic drug development.

 Responsibilities:

  • Establish strong relationship with SemaThera’s key international collaborators;
  • Advancing biologics candidates development and contribute to generating pre-clinical data to support IND filing;
  • Provide technical support and oversee the outsourcing of protein production, purification and formulation development;
  • Support SemaThera with statement of work with external organisations;
  • Perform plasmid construction, cloning, expression and purification of protein, binding assays, ELISA, Co-IP and western blot
  • Develop and implement cell-based and target engagement assays;
  • Maintain internal and external project timelines to ensure biologics development programs process towards established corporate goals;
  • Conduct and plan experiments in accordance with the company’s objectives;
  • Establish and manage collaborations with academic and industrial partners;
  • Accurately document experimental procedures and data in electronic notebooks
  • Analyse results and assemble the data into graphs and tables for presentations and meetings;
  • Write data reports.

The candidate should ideally possess the following :

 Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or other related discipline;
  • 10+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience with no less than 5 years of that experience focusing on biologics process development;
  • Experience working in a project related to ophthalmology preferable – or – can quickly get up to speed on retinal diseases and the whole Semaphorin biology;
  • Proven experience working with external manufacturing and analytical testing organisations;
  • Experience implementing and executing internal and external strategic plans and objectives;
  • Capable of interacting with international team of collaborators;
  • Understanding of industry best practices and non-GMP/GMP requirements for development and manufacturing of biologics;
  • Ability to work with cell culture transformed cell lines;
  • Team-working and problem-solving oriented;
  • Meticulous and motivated.

Industrial Post-Doc position in Ophthalmology

SemaThera Inc is a growing small biotech company which specializes in development of therapies for ocular indications such as macular edema, proliferative diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. The candidate will benefit from a dynamic research environment at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Research Centre in Montreal.  We are currently seeking an exceptional and highly motivated postdoc trainee to join our team of in vivo pharmacology.

 Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement new in vivo models to test designed compounds in new applications;
  • Assist in optimization of cell-based assays for monitoring the potency of SemaThera compounds;
  • Coordinate PK/PD and tolerability studies with CRO;
  • Conduct and plan experiments in accordance with the company’s objectives;
  • Perform all experiments related to in vivo models;
  • Analyse results and assemble the data into graphs and tables for presentations and meetings. Prepare presentations and reports on in vivo efficacy;
  • Establish and manage collaborations with academic and industrial partners;
  • Write data reports;
  • Potentially attend local and international scientific congresses

The candidate should ideally possess the following :

Requirements:

 PhD with training experience in a project related to ophthalmology is desirable.

  • Must have substantial expertise (or be very high motivation to develop it) with animal handling, surgery, data acquisition and analysis.
  • Ability to work with cell culture of primary and transformed cell lines.
  • Team-working and problem-solving oriented.
  • Meticulous and motivated.

The candidate should be willing to work on flexible schedules.
